Pastries Go Pink as ‘Cakes for a Cause’ Takes the Sweet Route to Spreading Breast Cancer Awareness

There was a sweet show of support for breast cancer awareness as mall visitors snapped up delicious pink baked delights at the second ‘Cakes for a Cause’ charity bake sale, which took place at BurJuman on October 18th.

The tempting scent of freshly baked goodies filled the mall’s corridors as 35 of Dubai’s leading bakeries, hotel patisseries and hobby bakers laid out their pink-themed creations at the busy community event in support of the BurJuman Safe and Sound Campaign.

Slices of cake, cookies, cupcakes and tarts by Bloomsbury’s, Brownie Point Cakes and Confectioners, House of Cakes, Ramada Hotel Bur Dubai - the Pastry Boutique, Al Maha - A Luxury Collection Desert Resort and Spa and other leading patisseries and hobby bakers flew off the stands, with mall visitors indulging their cravings for a good cause. 

25% of sales proceeds from the bake sale will be donated to fund various awareness and community outreach initiatives aimed at raising breast cancer awareness and encouraging women to be proactive about their health through the 3-step program – monthly self-examinations, regular clinical check-ups from age 20 and annual mammograms from age 40. Collected funds will also go towards providing free mammograms and patient care to needy women in the UAE.

In its sixteenth consecutive year since it was first launched, BurJuman’s breast cancer awareness campaign has once again teamed up with a number of organizations in order to generate the furthest outreach possible. Safe and Sound 2012 campaign partners include Dubai Events & Promotions Establishment (DEPE), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Del Monte, ADCB, Arab Orient Insurance Company, Johnson & Johnson and UniCare Medical Centre.
